  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kerry Burkhardt -- A Terrific Documentation of a Story that Needed to be Told : Nick does a fantastic job telling the story of Romeo while also educating the reader on wolf behavior and forcing the reader to evaluate our own behavior both as a society and as individuals. After reading the book, I feel indebted to Harry for investigating Romeo's demise and thereby giving him a chance at justice. I also feel grateful to Nick for committing the story to print so that we all can all share in the story of Romeo. But most of all, the story of Romeo makes me wish two things. First, that I had been there personally to experience that special black wolf, and second, that as a society we could eradicate ourselves of the evil constituents that choose to kill animals simply for sport. Gandhi said that the greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it's animals are treated. A Wolf Called Romeo tells the story of those that would strive to make us better (Harry, Nick, and the other Friends of Romeo), and those that continue to hinder our progress. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from T.Mac -- I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in wolves : Speaking from the perspective of an “animal geographer” this book could not be any more representative than another of the human–animal relationships that exist between and among species. Sadly, as is often the case when it comes to animals and humans, an anthropocentric result often occurs. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2018 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from History Buffs -- Highly recommend this beautiful book.... : It is not often I read a book I cannot put down....this is one of those books, and may be the best book I have ever read. It is beautifully written by Nick Jans with eloquence and love, and his photographs are stunning. Along the way, I fell in love with Romeo....everyone does. It is hard to imagine the contrast between this elegant and beloved wolf, who desired the company of humans and their dogs, and the evil in someone who could entertain the idea of taking Romeo's precious life. We surely all know there is much evil in this world, but Romeo's beautiful spirit lives on. I highly recommend this book for all ages....thank you, Mr. Jans, for this wonderful book and for sharing Romeo's life with us. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2016 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from bonniecat l -- Got so bored in the beginning, just could not complete the book : This book was supposed to be a story about a friendly wolf. FORGET THAT. It's beginning and further on is all about the breed. I NEVER give up on a book. Animal books I like to read. But if you want technical knowledge of wolves, read it. No story line by the time I was 25% through. Oh what a disappointment.... ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 8, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from anniec17 -- LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE WOLF! : What a beautiful true story of a beautiful wolf. I love wolves and this is at the top of my reading list. The wolf in question, Romeo, pictured on the cover, is an amazing animal who befriends various dogs whilst out on their daily meanderings with their owners. There are some dogs that Romeo befriends easily, without any ulterior motive other than wanting to be friends. Other dogs (perhaps their owners don't help), Romeo doesn't want to know and therefore runs away. As usual, there are the bad guys who can't wait to "bag" a wolf hide!! Uplifting, funny and sad, a brilliant book relating the account of a wolf who just wanted to be a friend. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 10, 2015 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Ms. C. J. M. Eastwood -- Very good and well written book : Very good and well written book. I was very moved by the true story of a lone black wild wolf and his relationship with the dogs belonging to the both the writer and also with those of others living in the locality. It took a bit of getting into so don't expect to be gripped from the first page but I would encourage you to persevere.. Lots of additional facts and information for wolf lovers from an author who obviously know his stuff and cares deeply about wolves. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 10, 2017 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Mrs. J. Goodman -- Small print book : I cannot comment on the actual story, as I brought this as a gift for someone, but I wanted to comment on the print size. Unfortunately this is quite small print and the person I brought the book for will struggle. I wish there was some easy way of knowing what the print size was before purchasing a book. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from K -- Don't give up on it : This is an interesting story and if accurate insightful to a degree of the history of wolves and their treatment but I found myself dipping in and out of it as I found some of it to be varying accounts of the same incidences so not a do t want to put down read. Even so I will continue to read it as I am interested to discover what happens at the end and never skip the reading to find out. If you love wolves you will probably want to read it though. Like I said i am finding it ok to dip in and out of. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 8, 2016 )
